Kolkata Trainee Doctor Rape-Murder Case:
The Supreme Court today heard the suo motu case related to the rape and murder of a doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata and urged the protesting doctors to resume work. A bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said there would be “no adverse action” if the doctors return to work by 5 pm tomorrow.
Thousands of doctors across West Bengal and other parts of the country are holding protests over the rape and murder of the 31-year-old train doctor on duty on August 9. Sanjay Roy – a civic volunteer – has been arrested in the case.
The top court also directed the immediate removal of photographs of the victim from all social media platforms and posted further hearings on the case on September 17.

Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is now questioning the challan that was given for the post-mortem report.

The Supreme Court is now posing questiongs to Mr Sibal — appearing for the West Bengal government — about the time when the post-mortem was conducted.
A senior counsel has questioned the timing of the FIR registered in the case.
The Supreme Court has asked the West Bengal government to provide accomodation to the CISF personnel in the vicnity of the RG Kar hospital.
The bench also asked the state government to provide the personnel with the gadgets they need by 9 pm today.
“There are three lady companies of the CISF which are not provided adequate accomodation. It takes them 1.5 hours to travel,” says Mr Mehta.
Mr Mehta also says that the personnel have not been given some security gadgets.

The CBI says it will get a separate forensic study done by the AIIMS and other central labs. The Supreme Court has asked the central agency to submit its status report by Tuesday (September 17) next week.

“The victim was found in a semi-naked condition and had injury marks on her body,” SG Tushar Mehta says during the hearing.
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud says that there is a CCTV footage that shows the accused, Sanjay Roy, entering and exiting the hospital’s seminar room, where the alleged rape and murder took place.
The Supreme Court is currently asking Mr Sibal about the time at which the UD (unnatural death) was registered in the case.

In its reports in the top court, the West Bengal Health Department said that as many as 23 people have died as doctors are on strike.
The Supreme Court bench is looking at the status report filed by the CBI and the West Bengal government. While Solicitor General Tushar Mehta is appearing for the central agency, senior advocate Kapil Sibal is representing the West Bengal government.

The top court had also asked the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government to give a status report of the investigation into thousands of people breaking into the hospital.

Over 130 protests took place in 25 countries, including major cities like Stockholm, Sydney, and New York. Protesters – many clad in black -held vigils, sang in Bengali, and chanted slogans in solidarity with the victim.
