The popular Baul singer who chose to remain reclusive had worked with renowned folk artists like Gosthogopal Das, Purnadas Baul, Sanatan Das Baul, Kalachand Darbesh, Parikshit Bala to name a few. After the demise of his guru Gosthogopal Das Tilak Maharaj permanently shifted his base to Mohonpur and started a new journey of a reclusive life while continuing his works in Bengali folk culture. He was carrying out the legacy of a now almost abandoned Srikhol genre.
Even recently the veteran singer appeared at a popular music reality show of a private channel and he was honoured by the judges of the show Monali Thakur, Srikanta Acharya and Shantanu Moitra.
Popular folk music artist and frontman of the Bengali band Sahajiya, Deb Chowdhury, said that everyone was concerned about his condition before the surgery but Tilak Maharaj made it with his will power and extremely high energy. An artist like his stature will always inspire generations of artists on how to stay grounded and continue to devote entire life to music, especially Bengal’s folk genre.
Meanwhile, singer Aditi Munshi said that Tilak Maharaj has left a void which we will never be able to fill up and it always be a regret that she couldn’t meet the legendary artist.
