
SHAMLI: A seven-member special task force (STF) from Haryana‘s Sonipat on a quiet mission to nab a murder accused at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district was attacked by locals with sticks and stones on Sunday. Some STF men were injured and their weapons were snatched before a UP police squad reached the spot and rescued them.
The murder accused, Mohammad Zabruddin, carried a reward of Rs 25,000. He was freed by locals from the STF’s custody. It was only much later that police managed to nab him again after an “encounter”.

The incident was filmed by the villagers. In one clip, the STF men can be heard calling for reinforcements even as villagers take away a loaded service pistol from one of the officers. The villagers also unsuccessfully tried to snatch an AK-47.
Following the violence, a case was registered against 30-40 unidentified and 21 named miscreants by the Haryana STF team. Shamli superintendent of police Abhishek said six miscreants have been arrested and a pistol recovered.
