BAREILLY: A court in Uttar Pradesh has extended the police custody remand (PCR) of 26-year-old Chinese national Wang Goujun, accused of spying against India, by four more days, taking it to nine days that he is being interrogated by cops.
Goujun, currently in PCR in Lakhimpur Kheri, will be taken to Lucknow for further investigation. He had entered India without a valid visa and was booked after a preliminary probe for spying. A host of central and state agencies are working on the case, local police said on Friday.
The court in Lakhimpur Kheri had earlier approved his remand for five days which concluded on Friday afternoon. Police in the interim took him to Delhi, where he spent over two days, and collected information of the places he visited in the national capital. The investigating team has also recovered CCTV footage of Goujun in Delhi.
Police involved in the investigation now want to unlock Goujun’s electronic devices like mobile and camera and get details about mobile applications like Photo App.
The Chinese national has been booked under IPC sections 121 (waging war against government of India) and 121-A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable under section 121 of IPC) along with sections 3 and 12 of the Passport Act and section 14 of the Foreigners’ Act.
Goujun had first visited Thailand from China and then gone to Nepal. From there, on February 14, he took a bus to arrive in Delhi where he visited “many places”, including some “key installations”. He was arrested at Gaurifanta-Nepal border in Lakhimpur Kheri by Sashastra Seema Bal on February 17, while heading back to Nepal.
